A multidisciplinary group at University Medical Center at Stony Brook

Approximately one in eighty couples, whether infertile or not, experience repeated miscarriages. The causes of this  are varied and can only be determined in approximately half of the cases. They include hormonal imbalances, hidden infections, genetic factors, congenital defects of the uterus, and immunologic factors. Accurate diagnosis and treatment then may require the participation of many different specialists. As we are University based, our Center can provide these services is an integrated way.

Our specialists in reproductive endocrinology, perinatology, genetics, immunology and psychiatry work together to provide:

The Center for Recurrent Pregnancy Loss was established under the direction of Dr. Richard Bronson, past president of the American Society of Reproductive Immunology, to function as a collaborative group at the University Medical Center. Its members regularly discuss cases. Each doctor who is a participant of the Center has a special knowledge that will help both in establishing expert diagnosis and providing treatment of couples who experience repeated miscarriage. As the Center is University-based, it can also participate in clinical trials, rapidly offer new diagnostic tests and treatments, and participate in multi-center studies to offer help to those 50% of couples whose evaluation is seemingly normal yet continue to miscarry.
